Easy DIY Felt Flowers Rakhi Craft

Easy DIY Felt Flowers Rakhi Craft

Raksha Bandhan is going to be here in a couple of weeks and I wanted to make some Rakhi bracelets for myself and Little B.  I didn’t want to spend money on store-brought rakhi threads because mostly I often find them ‘showy’ and a little repetitive in their design.

I was sure that I can make decent enough rakhi bracelets easily at home.

I found two felt sheets in my craft box and I had an idea. Felt is such a wonderful material, in fact a perfect craft material. Whatever you make with it, felt makes it look better. And it is versatile as well. It can be used to make fashion accessories, toys, home decor items and almost everything.

So I took some inspiration from the craftsy ladies on the internet and decided that felt flowers was what I wanted for this project.

This is what I started with

These ones are probably world’s easiest felt flowers.

1. Trace a circle. The final flower is almost going to be of the same diameter as the diameter of your circle. It will be a good idea to not use a dark-colored pen while tracing the circle as it will leave marks. Yes I did use a dark pencil by mistake and thus my end product does have slight marks on it.

2. Cut the traced circle.

3. Cut a spiral on your circle, all the way till the end. Try to keep the width of this spiral strip equal throughout.

4. Start from the outer edge and roll your spiral strip.

5. As you roll it all the way to the end, the inner edge will act like a little flap to cover the base of the flower.

6. Glue the end or just tuck it with a couple of simple stitches.

1. Cut about a 5 inch long and 1 1/2 inch wide strip out of felt.

2. Cut one side of the strip into petals. I have cut 5 petals. The more the number of petals, the more difficult it would be for you to bring it all together. Therefore, start with 5 for your first flower. If you are comfortable you can do 7 as well.

3. Sew through the other side of the strip with a simple stitch using any regular thread.

4. Start pulling the thread from both ends. Do this with patience or else the thread might break. As the ends are pulled tightly together, the flower will start taking shape.

5. Secure the flower by tying the ends of the thread in a tight knot.

6. Embellish if you want to.

1. Trace and cut a 3-inch (diameter) circle.

2. Cut a spiral in it. Keep the width of this spiral about an inch.

3. Cut petal shape on the outer portion of the spiral.

4. Roll and finish it just like the Felt Flower #1.
