Homemade Gnocchi with Peas

Homemade Gnocchi with Peas

Is it been ages since I wrote here! Yes I think! It is not that I haven’t been cooking. It has been a festive season here since past couple of months and I have been cooking a lot. A Lot. But wasn’t getting any time at all to post food here. Like this particular recipe, I actually cooked within weeks of making bags of gnocchi. But look how late I am posting it.

Coming back to gnocchi with peas, this is actually a Gordon Ramsay‘s recipe. I have always followed Gordon Ramsay as an entertainer (in his shows Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares), but never as a chef. I have seen entire seasons of his shows and never a single video of him cooking per se. Can you believe it? So of course when I found this recipe I was surprised.

I was surprised also because it is such a simple recipe. I was wondering will it taste good or just bland. But gave it a try anyhow. What I found out after cooking it was it is actually this simplicity that is the USP of the dish. Like have you sometimes noticed that the best pizza is just with tomato and mozzarella and nothing else? Or that sometimes a soup tastes best with just salt and pepper and no other spice? Sometimes just a handful of ingredients give a dish a taste beyond compare.

That is what this dish is about.

You Would Need

Gnocchi (This recipe is for serving size 2. So would need gnocchi for 2 people. If you still need a measurement, I think it will come out to be 2 cups uncooked gnocchi. But again add or take out depending on your approximation)

3/4 cup of frozen peas

Butter – as per preference

Zest of 1 lemon

Grated Parmesan for serving

Salt and pepper to taste

Olive oil

Specifications

Serving Size 2

How to Go About It

Start by cooking the gnocchi. You can check this post for details regarding cooking gnocchi. Keep the gnocchi aside for a couple of minutes before you start working with them.

Heat a separate frying pan and add to it olive oil. Add gnocchi to this pan and season it with salt and pepper.

I ate a lot of this yummy gnocchi. I just couldn’t stop. And yes it was awfully buttery because I might have gone overboard with butter!
