Looking Forward to Get Storyfied at JUMPSTART 2015
Children’s storybooks have always intrigued me. They’ll have merely 50 words, merely 10 pages and will be based on merely one simple idea. And yet.
Just read Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.
When I read it to Little B she enjoys it so much. Story of a boy being at its worst behavior! Which kid wouldn’t love that! Initially I read the book because it just made my daughter laugh. And then one day it caught my attention. It is a beautiful book that can inspire parents to let their child get angry and through tantrum. And at the same time, it tells kids that doesn’t matter how much they annoy their parents, their parents will love them just as warmly. Such an unusual message!
Since 2010 (the year of my daughter’s birth), I have been reading more of children’s storybooks than adult’s. I have gone through a wide variety of emotions while raising her up. Add to that the sweet things she says and I feel that I have enough material to write plenty of storybooks for kids.
I have the material and I can write but I do not have a clue as to how I can get started on a board book or a picture book or even a storybook.
I came to know about JUMPSTART 2015 from a social media friend (is that even a thing?) and by my local library (JustBooks). It is an event that brings together experts from media, education, publishing, digital, performing and visual arts and people like me who are interested in writing for or about kids. The event consists of workshops and discussions all around the idea of children’s storybooks. So you can be a mother, a writer, a teacher, an animator, a librarian or just a curious person, just join the event and you will not be disappointed. I am so looking forward to GET STORYFIED, and you should check it out too.
Visit JUMPSTART, for finding out more about the event, the schedule, the speakers and to register for it.
The event is taking place on 21st and 22nd August at Goethe-Institut, Max Mueller Bhavan, Bengaluru.
