Lessons in Parenting and Raising Entrepreneurs From ‘Losing My Virginity’

If we are talking about raising entrepreneurs, the most important thing is to show them an example. This example can be either of the parents or any other family member or friend who can regularly motivate children to be an entrepreneur. Let me tell this, entrepreneurship is not a profession, it is a way of life. You might be working the standard 9 to 5 shift and yet you still can be entrepreneurial in your life.

DIY is an excellent way to teach values of hard work, innovation and business to a child. And it is not difficult at all. Let’s say if your child asks for a toy, ask him/her to make it himself/herself. Go to Pinterest or DIY forums and I can guarantee that you will find a DIY version of the toy. Provide the raw materials and let the child make it (you may or may not help depending on the complexity). There’s nothing greater that a child can experience than the feeling of being a creator and an inventor.

I have seen so many mothers involved in cottage industries or small home-based businesses. Involve the child in the business, ask for their opinions and their help. Make sure you pay them for their contribution in any way you see fit. Need more inspiration on this, watch Cameron Herold’s TED talk.
